John Holloway HASTINGS was born on 23 Apr 1796 in North Carolina and died on 29 Aug 1864 in Humbolt, Allen Co., Kansas. John H. Hastings must have had a little Gypsy in his soul. His roving nature took him many places: Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Missouri. The outbreak of the Civil War found him in Texas. He supposedly took his family to Kansas afterward where he died near Humboldt 29 August 1864.. We have been unable to find a burial site. The birth / death / marriage records for John Holloway Hastings children were taken from bible records. That is why there are no places of residence or decease for most of them. I'm told the Hastings females, except Sara who married William Prather went to California by 1860. These would be the daughters of John & Rachel Cannon Hastings. They may have gone to California with Isaac Hastings...Isaac died in 1872, Bennet Valley, Sonoma Co, CA.
